Those Three Little Words

Shelter in place. They might be the hottest trending three little words at the moment. They fill us with fear and dread and panic. The most upbeat people in my life are suddenly, understandably, gloomy and sad.

As our nation grapples with the complexities of this virus the whole idea of travel has gone from a joy to a concern to a non-event.

Information is constantly changing and more than plentiful. Today Conde Nast posted a great article summarizing the various airlines’ international flight policies. They will certainly change as we approach the end of the initial time frames outlined in the postings. Cancellation period time frames may extend. Future credits may be allowed to be used for longer periods. No one knows as of yet.

One thing is for sure, though. When things get better, and they will, there will be a lot of people with future travel credits to use and only so many options to use them.

Travel companies have come up with some very liberal travel assurance plans to take the worry out of planning ahead. And I think planning ahead is a great idea. There is availability right now, for one thing, because so many people are choosing to do nothing. And, prices are bound to go up once things loosen up. Demand will be high and losses will need to be made up.

So this could be a great time to look to the future and plan for better days!! Just having something to look forward to can help our attitude and ability to cope in the present.
