Post Cruise Scale Shock?
We’ve all done it. Come back from a cruise and wondered how all those extra pounds added up so quickly! But it isn’t inevitable and it isn’t even all that hard to turn your cruise into a kick start for a healthier you!
Whether your weakness is 24 room service (what, someone will bring me food 24 hours a day!), luscious looking desserts, all those cocktails or those amazing ice cream cones you just can’t pass up every time you pass the stand (and you happen to walk past it several times a day if you are like me) there are some simple ways you can turn your cruise into a healthy experience.
Even if you aren’t inclined to start your day in the gym you can take a brisk morning walk around the deck. You will acquaint yourself with the ship and start your day off feeling invigorated. Or challenge yourself and sign up for a fitness class you might not want to commit to at home – maybe yoga or pilates. Don’t worry about looking silly, you’re not going to see most of these people again anyway!
Almost every cruise line has an extensive selection of fresh salad fixings and fruit. Mix up a big bowl of yummy stuff and enjoy.
Take advantage of having a chef on board. With a simple request to your waiter you can ask for lighter preparation of menu items that limit fats and calories. Or, try a healthy new dish that you might not have made at home – grilled fish or a vegetarian option. You might discover a new favorite!
Take advantage of port days to try out a new activity like kayaking or rent a paddle boat if you are in a warm climate or chose a walking tour in Europe or Scandinavia. There are plenty of options.
TIP – Take advantage of that port day to enjoy the pool when there are fewer people on board and get in a few laps.
Night owls can try out their dance moves in the various venues available on most cruise ships or take a dance class on board. It’s a great way to work off that dinner you just enjoyed!
Making little changes to your routine or diet while on your cruise can go a long way to keeping you healthy and energized on board. Do you have any suggestions or experiences you would like to share? Feel free to comment below!
I have scale shock on a regular basis — having room service would definitely be a problem for me!
Great post – I love the idea of having a custom order with a helpful chef/waiter. Great job Nadine 🙂
Thanks, Brian!
